![]() Apparently it got worse and worse so gradually that Mom didn't realize something was wrong. Her old laptop took 30+ min just to boot up QuickBooks and then would hang for about a minute after every click or enter. I looked at rental laptops but even the cheapest one would add up to $800+ in payments by October 15, and I'm assuming I can find something decent for less than that. QuickBooks is the only thing she uses a PC laptop for, so how well it runs QuickBooks is indeed the only selection criteria. She says she doesn't have the mental energy to learn a new interface for software that she won't be using ever again after she wraps up the final year's bookkeeping and tax filings. She is dead set against learning a different version of QuickBooks because she is retiring and sold the business with the new owners taking over Jan 1st. I already tried uninstalling and deleting a bunch of stuff and that made no noticeable difference to speed. Going back to her old laptop isn't an option. It has to be a laptop not desktop because she travels frequently for my stepdad's medical care. She has many many years of data in her QuickBooks with a company file size of 155mb. I know what the published minimum system requirements are and I know she doesn't need a $2,000 gaming laptop just to run QuickBooks, but I don't know what upgrades over the minimum specs would make the biggest difference in user-perceived speed while using QuickBooks?Īdditional details that might be relevant: I'd really like my laptop back so I'm thinking of buying her an inexpensive laptop during the post-Christmas sales, but I don't want to make my Mom cry by making her QuickBooks run slow again. My mom has been borrowing my gaming laptop for her QuickBooks for the past few months because her old business laptop was so intolerably slow that it was effectively broken.
